I'm not looking for the obvious answer war game, I mean what type, like I no it's not an RPG or at least i don't think it is, what do you call those text based games?

Text-based games. It was a simulator, called 'Global Thermonuclear War'
In the early 80's Infocom produced a whole slew of games that were text-based: the Zork Series, A Hitch-hikers Guide To the Galaxy, and one pg-13 game called Leather Goddeses of Phobos,lol. All were very hard and all were based on the grandaddy text-based game 'Adventure'
