A brief Glimpse Into Playstation 3's Star Ocean - Finally Released!
The Star Ocean franchise has been around for a very long time now, and remains a quietly successful alternative to the more famous JRPGs out there. In 2009 the Xbox 360 was treated to the most recent release in the series; Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope. The title was well received, however a Playstation version was not announced. Now, finally, players can find Playstation 3's Star Ocean.
The production of this version is not a direct port, but instead is named the 'international' edition, and offers some small extras. Firstly, the initial Japanese vocal track has been added as an option. This is often a popular extra for those who prefer their JRPGs with a bit more authenticity. Additionally, gamers can toggle the HUD display to reveal the initial Japanese design for characters. Not a large extra, but nice nonetheless.
Now the game itself, and Playstation 3's Star Ocean will not disappoint. The game builds on the fighting system of previous installments within the series, providing a straightforward but fun attack approach that is gradually levelled up as time progresses. New features like the Rush gauge add a new spin to the combat, rewarding quick handed gamers with more advantages.
The storyline that runs throughout Playstation 3's Star Ocean is suitably grand, as one would expect from developers Square Enix. A nice feature is the optional Personal Actions, which allows gamers to interact between their characters to realize a deeper sense of character development. This might not be integral to the plot, but is nice for gamers wanting to completely immerse themselves with the characters.
It might have taken a while, but Playstation 3's Star Ocean is certainly {worth} the delay. The graphics, while maybe not up to Final Fantasy standards, are still beautiful and the storyline can reward you the more you put into it. Any followers of the genre ought to definitely look into this nice title.
