PSP is never the focal point of attention when it comes to FIFA's development resources, but it has never stopped EA Sports from conducting a competent package for fans of the portable radio. This year is no different, although the engine is running PSP version of FIFA could use some work after a relatively untouched by the last few years. The gameplay is as solid as ever, especially with the new 360-degree dribbling abilities previously exclusive to consoles, but the new Be A Goalie Mode suffer because of the limitations of the PSP hardware.
As soon as you start your PSP is clear that not much has changed from last year's effort.Menu designs are the same action on the pitch, delivered in the same manner and football IQ (a set of knowledge-based questions on sport) and challenges state (a list of games, results, which you must respond) has been a Part of FIFA PSP years now and have had little presentation elements tweaked.

Thankfully, EA Sports has taken the time to complete 360-degree dribbling, which first debuted on the console versions last year. Importantly this allows players to break free of the old dribble that only allowed for eight directions of movement. It gives star players the ability to pull off some fancy features in confined spaces without having to hold the left trigger to activate the actual tricks and skill moves. The effect is mitigated when the sprint, which still feels a bit stiff, but if you can keep the ball close to your player's body difference is clear.
The joint really new fashion is to Be A Goalie, but unfortunately it is not good, even compared to the disappointing version available on consoles. Playing as a network fit on the PSP means that you are stuck watching the action from behind your target for the entire game. On consoles, you can press the Select button to chain up the field to have a minimum of control over the action, but the PSP hardware does not allow it. Instead you're stuck waiting for the measures that ultimately threaten the goal to protect, but I've played in games where I did not have to make a single save. Needless to say that it was not the most exciting experiences of FIFA.
Fortunately Standard Be A Pro career mode is still as solid as ever and allows you to create a young star and take him through his career. It has not changed much at all in its core design. You will still see the track indicators let you know about players, you should be defending and the ball still that ethereal glow, as it makes its way around the box so you can keep track of it easily.
In the way of multiplayer, there is again no infrastructure. Instead, all you'll find is traditional ad-hoc games that did well enough in our tests. Strangely enough, we experienced some nervous gameplay and lag when the space between our PSPs stretched beyond ten meters. It was not too much of annoyance, but it's something to consider if you want to play against someone far away from you.
Graphically, the game is virtually identical to last year's contract, which means that it works well for a PSP game, but does not impress in a particular area. Player detail stuck in close-ups, but not display the aesthetic differences that on the console versions, when you use the default gameplay camera angle.
